Buntús

BuntusBuntús

Is a primary school sports/PE initiative to support teachers in the delivery of both curriculum PE and extra-curricular sporting programmes…The Buntús Programme is a physical activity programme for Primary School children which was developed by the Irish Sports Council and endorsed by the Department of Education.

 

 

Buntús provides training for teachers, along with kit bags of equipment worth over €700 to the school.

 

Buntus The programme is broken into two streams – Buntús Play and Buntús Multi-Sport

Buntús Play
is aimed primarily at 5-9 year olds. The focus is to aid in the development of basic motor and movement skills. This is done using equipment such as balloon balls and other small sized equipment.

Buntus Buntús Multi-Sport

is aimed at 7-11 year olds. It acts as an introduction to net/wall activities and games whereby teams invade each others space. The Buntús Programme is nationally coordinated by the Irish Sports Council’s Participation Unit and is delivered locally by the Sports Partnerships and seeks to: –

  • Raise the profile of physical education and sport
  • Improve in-service training opportunities for teachers
  • Assist governing bodies of sport (GBs) to develop and deliver appropriate support for teachers
  • Provide enjoyable and meaningful activity for children
  • Support delivery of the National Curriculum

The three key components of the programme – training, resource cards and equipment – are designed to provide easy to understand, and accessible support to give children a fun, but high quality introduction to sport.
