On Saturday 14th January 2012 Operation Transformation came to Lough Muckno as
Monaghan Sports Partnership and the Irish Sports Council linked up with RTE’s ‘Operation Transformation’ Programme to transform the masses – by holding an ‘Operation Transformation National Walk Day’ in Castleblayney.
It was a huge success as over 200 people turned out for the scenic walk around the beautiful Black Island. People of all ages and abilities came along on the day and a large number of families got involved. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
A Big thank you must also go to the walking leaders, volunteers, tus worker, coillte and Muckno Community Partnership who assisted with the organisation of the walk.
Getting active makes such a big difference to your heart and overall health, helping to reduce stress, ease back pain and reducde the risk of heart disease. So watch out for our upcoming Fitwise Programme!!!
The aim of the walks is to raise awareness of Healthy & Active living while encouraging more people to get more active more often.
Last year, over 35 people turned out in Monaghan town for the walk and we are hoping to far exceed those numbers in 2012.
Monaghan Sports Partnership has chosen the scenic Lough Muckno route around Black island. The walk will take place on Saturday, 14th January 2012. Walking leaders and participants will meet at 11am at the Black Island Bridge – parking is available within the grounds of Lough Muckno and it is just a few metres to the bridge.
There will be two walking routes available on the day (depending on numbers). The first will follow a 4km route which is easily achievable by the beginner walker or you can choose the more lengthy 7km route for a slightly more challenging walk.
Whichever way it promises to be a beautiful scenic walk for families and friends to enjoy and is the ideal way to kick start off your New Year health plan.
Everyone will be able to complete the walk at their own pace.
We welcome all ages and abilities along on the day and particularly would like to see families getting involved. The event is ideal for beginners to come out and give it a go. Why not make a start today, and remember no matter what age you are, it is never too late to start exercising. The walk will last approximately 35– 45 minutes, so please dress appropriately. You should wear light warm clothing (don’t forget your hat!) and suitable footwear as some areas may be wet or slightly dirty.
Come on: let’s show the nation how active the people of Monaghan really are!
