heritage week and bike the blackwater, win free entry by registering on-lineE BLACKWATER

Bike the Blackwater has returned for the third year, letting you enjoy explore the stunning countryside and oldest, historic estates in county Armagh, Dungannon and Monaghan.

On Sunday 12th September 2010, Blackwater Regional Partnership hosts heritage open day with a difference. Why not explore the area from your bike, as you follow the route of the Blackwater River starting from Blessingborne Estate in Fivemiletown and continuing through countries of Monaghan, Armagh and returning through the Clogher Valley in Co Tyrone to Blessingbourne?

This route will showcase the spectacular attractions and scenery the Blackwater Region has to offer including its fantastic cycling terrain.

Following the ‘Estates’ theme at Blessingbourne enjoy a gently ease into the first climb of the day – over Sliabh Beagh. A steady ascent to around 250m takes you through the Mullaghfad Forest and into County Monaghan . The road narrows on the mountain to enjoy the views down through the valley.
As you pick up the source of the Blackwater on the descent at Scotstown and follow its course toward Glaslough, Tynan, Killylea and on to Caledon. Here you will enjoy refreshments in the recently restorted courthouse before taking in the final estate at Favour Royal.

This event promises to showcase the best of what the region has to offer, receive a t-shirt, badge, lunch and water though-out the route and enjoy the fun sporting atmosphere for only £20/€20.
