National BikeWeek returns to Monaghan – where will your bike take you?
National Bike Week, which takes place annually, returns to Monaghan this June from Saturday, 10th to Sunday, 18th June. Enjoy eight days on two wheels celebrating and promoting all that is great about cycling. There are a wide range of events taking place throughout Monaghan (see full listing attached and available on www.bikeweek.ie).
Bike Week provides some fun-filled family events, as well as catering for cycling enthusiasts. There is quite literally something for all ages and ability, from fun cycles, lunchtime bike rides, school cycling and much much more, Bike Week has something for everyone.
In Monaghan lots of Primary Schools and Pre-School services are getting involved during the week with their own bike events in the yard with the addition of some on-road cycling by St. Marys NS, Glaslough (annual 4 village cycle) and a cyclathon by St. Tiernach’s NS, Clones.
As part of Teach na nDaoines Community Hearts project launch at their community garden, you are invited to create some pedal power and generate a fruit smoothie as a reward!
A Midsummer’s Evening with Eve will see Rio Paralympic Gold Medallist Eve Mc Crystal at Patsys Cycling Memrobilia, Cornagilta Tydavnet and all types of bikes most welcome & the event is suitable for families. Eve will have her Olympic medals & will pose for photos & autographs during the evening . This is a wonderful opportunity to see Olympic Medals & meet a champion. As this year is also the 30th anniversary of Stephen Roche’s magnificent Treble of Wins on the World stage, see a wonderful collection of memories from the golden era of Irish Cycling.
Emyvale Cycling Club welcome female cyclists to their leisure cycle on Monday and invite cycling enthusiasts to see the urban circuit race at St. Davnets Complex on Thursday. Killylough Cycling Club hosts a leisure spin on Tuesday while 4 County Cycling Club organises its annual social spin on Wednesday.
New to the event listing is the introduction of Muckno Cycling Club , whose members are holding a family fun event at Lough Muckno on the final Sunday to wrap up the bike week festivities.
Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, Bike Week is coordinated at a national level by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and is supported locally by Monaghan Sports Partnership on behalf of Monaghan County Council.
